Ted GayIt is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Ted Gay late President of East Midlands Liberal Democrats last Wednesday

Ian Neill - Erewash writes

Ted was a founder member of the SDP and when the Liberal Democrats were formed he joined the new group. He was an enthusiastic recruiter and canvasser. He won many awards for the number of members he recruited. I remember once at a conference a lady stopped us and asked what was going on as she had had difficulty in getting an hotel room. Ted told her it was the Lib Dem conference and produced an application form and signed her up.

When Nick first came to campaign to become our Euro candidate he stayed at Ted's and he showed him around, just as he did with many of those who became leaders of the party like Charles Kennedy.

He campaigned in Erewash and was known to many in the area as the little man who came knocking on their doors to get them to vote.

In later years he had to give up as his failing sight made it difficult to get around.

Ted's funeral will be at Wilford Crematorium, Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7FE on Tuesday 16th October at 2:40pm.

Tony Rogers - Chair of East Midlands Liberal Democrats writes:

Ted will always have a place in all of our hearts, not only because he was loyal to the Party, but to his friends. In fact I never heard him say a bad word about anyone.

Ted has a permanent Memorial in my home, one day he brought me a mounted piece of the Berlin Wall with a photo showing him chipping it off the actual Wall. In fact I think he brought back enough to sell pieces at £5.00 a time raising money for the Party.

He was in indeed a good bloke and a terrific servant to our Party, and will indeed be very sadly missed.

If anyone would like a lift to his funeral please let me know, but I only have room for three.
