Phil KnowlesEast Mids Policy Officer Phil Knowles highlighted that 2012 has been a productive year in the East Midlands as more and more members have engaged in the debate on Policy. Across the region Policy has become a regular item on the agendas of many of our Branches, Constituencies and other gatherings.

At Regional Conference earlier this year the Policy Debates were arguably one of the highlights of the day, sadly due to time pressures it now seems that the opportunity to repeat this at the November Conference has been reduced,

'' Colleagues have explained to me that due to a packed agenda and severe time constraints there will be little time available for Policy Debates. This is extremely sad, our party, after all, thrives on just these type of discussions but I fully appreciate the difficulties. For me however I feel that something needs to be done. We can't lose the chance to have an opportunity to debate an emergency item so I am pleased to say a compromise has been reached. The items already on file for possible debate will be held over till Spring Conference but a 20 minute slot will be held open for an emergency item. If anything deemed urgent arises members should email me by noon on the day before Conference and I will submit it to the Regional Chair and President for consideration.''
